Dr. Akhwand earned her doctorate in clinical psychology from George Washington University and completed her predoctoral internship at George Mason University Counseling and Psychological Services.
Dr. Akhwand works with adults and young adults, tailoring therapy to each client’s unique experiences, needs, and goals. She has experience supporting clients navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, relationship concerns, life transitions, and questions of identity and belonging. Her work includes supporting individuals impacted by childhood and interpersonal trauma, as well as cultural and migration-related stress.
Dr. Akhwand believes that meaningful change begins with having a space where you can feel seen and understood. In therapy, she creates a collaborative and welcoming space where clients can bring their full selves and explore the patterns, experiences, and questions that matter most to them.
Dr. Akhwand offers therapy in both English and Farsi and welcomes clients from diverse backgrounds. Her approach is relational, psychodynamically informed, culturally responsive, and grounded in evidence-based care. She integrates psychodynamic and interpersonal perspectives with approaches such as CBT, ACT, and DBT, tailoring therapy to each person rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all approach.
