Lana Batarseh, PhD, therapist in Fairfax, Virginia

Dr. Lana Batarseh is a Post-Doctoral Resident in Clinical Psychology under the supervision of Dr. Rachel Oakes. She earned her PhD in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Forensic Psychology from Palo Alto University, and completed her APA-accredited predoctoral internship at Saint Elizabeths Hospital in Washington, DC.

Dr. Batarseh has worked with adults across community mental health, outpatient and inpatient psychiatric care, forensic settings, and the Veterans Affairs healthcare system. She is particularly drawn to complex presentations involving trauma, addiction, anxiety and depression, psychosis, relational and intimacy concerns, and major life transitions. Her work is also shaped by a strong interest in cultural identity, self-image, belonging, family and intergenerational expectations, and the ways people learn who they are “supposed” to be.

In therapy, Dr. Batarseh looks beyond symptoms to understand the experiences, relationships, beliefs, and environments that have shaped how a person moves through the world. Her style is warm and relational, but also thoughtful and willing to challenge patterns that may once have been protective and no longer fit. She draws from CBT, DBT, ACT, Motivational Interviewing, and other evidence-based approaches to help clients understand themselves more deeply and develop new ways of responding to their lives.
