Post-Doctoral Resident

Abby is in the process of obtaining her doctorate in Counseling Psychology from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota, and completed her residency at Confluence Health, a multidisciplinary healthcare system located in a rural region of Washington State. Dr. Porter is currently a postdoctoral resident under the supervision of Megan Barone, PsyD.

Abby’s specialty areas encompass PTSD and trauma-related disorders, dissociative disorders, sexual and domestic violence, depression and anxiety disorders, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), relationship issues and struggles, and LGBTQ+ concerns.

Abby’s primary therapeutic framework is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which focuses on understanding how our emotions influence our thoughts and behaviors. In addition to CBT, she skillfully integrates elements from a variety of evidence-based modalities, including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET), Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) Therapy, and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP).

Abby is a compassionate and committed to providing a safe, non-judgmental, and client-centered space for individuals to explore their challenges and achieve positive growth. She believes strongly in the importance of the therapeutic relationship, offering empathy, genuineness, and unconditional positive regard to help her clients thrive. Abby believes that when clients are provided with a healthy, nurturing environment to begin their healing journeys, they have the ability and resilience to overcome adversities to live a good, positive quality of life.
